Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex [Dive Active] Glossary: Ghost |
||
| Collectively, ghost refers to intuition, consciousness, and individuality. These attributes are not reproduceable and are thought to only exist in humans. The notion of a ghost is oftimes interpreted as being equatable to the notion of a soul. Previously believed to be present only due to an original state of biological humanity, new evidence suggests that the presence of a ghost can exist in a completely artificial environment, or shell, where no humanity, biological or otherwise, has ever existed. This has given rise to increasing debate of what constitutes being human. Further complicating the existence of a ghost is the changing boundaries of where a ghost can possibly exist, the greatest argument being that a ghost can reside purely in the synaptic pulses of electrons that compose the network. | ||
| As technology advances, the only seperating difference between cyborgs and androids has been the empirical concept of having a ghost. This distinction is being blurred as the relative notion of a ghost becomes more complex. | ||
